Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.

Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.

To attend this field day, students must complete the online course work at https://www.hunter-ed.com/iowa/. Once you've completed the online portion, print off the field day voucher and bring it with you to class.

By attending an Iowa Hunter Education Field Day Course, you understand that there remains a risk you could be exposed to and contract Coronavirus (COVID-19) and you are voluntarily assuming this risk. You release, covenant not to sue, and hold harmless the Iowa DNR, its staff, volunteers, and host facilities for any and all liability from any claims arising from these actions related to COVID-19.

Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), masks will be required for all students and instructors participating in the course while indoors and in situations where safe, social distancing practices cannot be adhered to. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mask.

Please Note:  When you are registering a child for this course please be sure to login as the child you are wishing to register or create an account for that child and do not login or register yourself as a parent unless you are wanting to take the course yourself for certification. Students who have previously purchased Iowa DNR Licenses (such as youth deer tags), will already have an Iowa DNR account and should register for this field day using their personal information.
