 Details

Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.

Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.

By attending an Iowa Hunter Education Classroom Course, you understand that there remains a risk you could be exposed to and contract Coronavirus (COVID-19) and you are voluntarily assuming this risk. You release, covenant not to sue, and hold harmless the Iowa DNR, its staff, volunteers, and host facilities for any and all liability from any claims arising from these actions related to COVID-19.

Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), masks will be required for all students and instructors participating in the course while indoors and in situations where safe, social distancing practices cannot be adhered to. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mask.
